S6 Science Ambassadors

The S6 Science Ambassadors Scheme encourages budding S6 scientists to work with their local primary schools, utilising their expertise and fostering strong partnership links. The Scheme also challenges stereotypes and stimulates interest in Science for all involved.

"I decided to do this project becuase I wanted to get primary pupils interested in science.  I am going to be teaching a primary one class. I love science myself, so I aim to show children how exciting it actually is."

"I am joining the Science Ambassador project because I think it will be fun and a worthwhile experience.  It is a chance to give something back to my primary school and develop new communication and presentation skills with children."

"The role of science ambassador was a truly amazing one to fulfil in sixth year.  Getting involved in a teaching community is invaluable as it enables you to see the learning process from another angle but it is also highly personally rewarding.  Building relationships with the children and working closely alongside a primary school was both challenging and rewarding.  Seeing the pupils engage with a task that you designed, prepared and presented is an amazing moment as you can see how well your hard work has paid off.  You can clearly see that the hours of prep time were well spent when the lesson goes to plan and the children enjoy and learn from it."

"The pupils improved my planning....

Every task I planned, I made sure it included everyone, as all the children learned differently.

They were so excited singing the song about friction.  I also got a chance to do a question and answer session with P6 and P7 classes which I enjoyed.

This was a good investment of my time and effort and I would encourage everyone to go for it.  The rewards I gained from the Science Ambassador scheme are invaluable."

"Being a Science Ambassador is great fun!  It helps you have more confidence in yourself and your knowledge.  Go for it if you want to gain more confidence, leadership skills and have fun at the same time."
